Matt Hunter Wins the StatSheet NEC Player of the Week - March 4th, 2013

StatSheet's NEC Player of the Week for March 4th goes to Matt Hunter. Shivaughn Wiggins from Mount St. Mary's has won StatSheet's NEC Freshman of the Week. And finally, Quinnipiac's Ousmane Drame has taken StatSheet's NEC 6th Man of the Week. Hunter tallied 15.7 points per game, 5 assists per game, and 8 rebounds per game. The Central Connecticut State junior played well in victories versus Quinnipiac and St. Francis (PA) and a loss to Robert Morris.

Hunter led all rebounding for the Blue Devils with 8 while adding 3 assists in a close 67-65 win against Quinnipiac. That was followed by a team-leading 23 points plus an additional 9 assists in a narrow 84-81 victory over St. Francis (PA). Finally, Hunter led all scoring and rebounding with 17 points and 9 rebounds, closing out the week with an 81-61 loss to Robert Morris.

This is the second time this season that Matt Hunter has been selected StatSheet NEC Player of the Week. He has also received multiple honorable mentions. The runner-up this week is Alex Francis, a junior from Bryant. Honorable mention goes to senior Jamal Olasewere from Long Island.

StatSheet NEC Freshman of the Week: Mount St. Mary's's Shivaughn Wiggins

Shivaughn Wiggins averaged 30 minutes of playing time while starting both games for Mount St. Mary's. He was number one among all NEC freshmen in both scoring (22.0 pts per game) and free throws (8.5 per game). In a 77-63 win over Monmouth, Wiggins led all scoring for the Mountaineers with 16 and added 2 assists. Following that in a massive 103-82 win against Fairleigh Dickinson, he led all scoring with a 28 point show and added 3 steals.

Shivaughn Wiggins has won the StatSheet NEC Freshman of the Week an astounding 4 times. Xavier Harris from Fairleigh Dickinson gets runner-up. Honorable mention goes to Greg Brown from St. Francis (PA). Brandon Peel was the highest ranking freshman from Central Connecticut State and finished 5th.

StatSheet NEC 6th Man of the Week: Quinnipiac's Ousmane Drame

Sophomore Ousmane Drame, a 6-9 reserve forward, played an average of 23 minutes over three games for the Bobcats. In a 67-65 loss to Central Connecticut State, Drame put up 11 points and 13 rebounds. Then in a 78-67 victory against St. Francis (NY), he racked up 7 points and 5 rebounds. Finally, in a 96-90 loss to Long Island, Drame put up 21 points on 70% shooting.

This is the second StatSheet NEC 6th Man of the Week win for Ousmane Drame. Joe O`Shea, a sophomore guard from Bryant, is runner up. Kelvin Parker, a sophomore forward from Mount St. Mary's, earns honorable mention. With this latest achievement, Central Connecticut State has won the StatSheet NEC Player of the Week award 2 times this season.
